You Are What You Choose to Become

You are what you choose to become“I am not what has happened to me.  I am what I choose to become.” ~ Carl Jung

This is a very powerful quote that completely aligns with what you’re about to read here.  In fact, it begs the following questions:

1) Do you believe that past experiences have shaped your life and will always shape your life?

2) Do you presently live a life you really don’t like or enjoy because you still have a close connection to the misgivings or judgments of your past?

3) Do you believe that it’s just the way it is and it will never change?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time to open your eyes, become aware, move into the present, and start seeing what you’ve been missing!

Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying.  This is not criticism.  In fact, it’s quite the opposite.  It’s an opportunity to grasp a new perspective that will change everything for you.  It will open your mind to imagining all the things that your life could be—and will be—if only you choose it.

The idea is to only look at the past as a reference point.  It has no significant use beyond that.  You can’t change it so why would you want to hang on to it?  So, go forward choosing to live your life the way you want to live it and leave the past in the past—right where it belongs.

Making this choice allows you to know where you are—where it is you want to be—no more bumbling through life wishing you could be something other than what you are or someone other than who you are.

Have you ever wondered when you look at the most successful and happy people around you how they got to where they are and how things just keep getting better for them?  Do you think they’re carrying all the mistakes they made in their lives with them and regretting them every day?  Do you suppose they see themselves as victims or they’re blaming others all the time for anything that didn’t go right in their life or because they had a bad experience?

They’re not.  It’s impossible to choose to live an amazing, happy, fulfilled, and faithful life and still carry any of the saboteurs of the past with you, but you have to make the choice.  Once you make the choice to live this obtainable life and lifestyle, and I mean really choose it, the saboteurs of the past fall away like the leaves from the trees on a windy November day.

“It’s only when you exercise your right to choose that you can also exercise your right to change.” ~ Dr. Shad Helmstetter

You are what you choose to become.  Choose the life you want.  Set goals.  See yourself living the life you want.  Be grateful every day for every blessing and every opportunity.   Be led by joy—not the past.  Choose it!

You are what you choose to become. . . .

Excellent post, Peggy, I appreciate the insight that we can think we are making positive choices, but still sabotage ourselves by carrying around our pasts. Just changing that one step could help many of us reinvigorate our lives.
