How to cope with stress and anxiety with the body:
Working out. Working out can be any physical activity you desire that lasts at least 30 min. 3-6 times a week. Our bodies were designed to move. Choose an activity or exercise to release the “feel good” hormones and lower the stress hormone, cortisol.
Eating right. Nutritious meals and snacks will help your body function properly and give you energy to accomplish your responsibilities.
Cutting down on treats. Contrary to what you may feel, eating junky snacks, or mindless eating is not a good coping mechanism. Consuming treats and sweets are temporary fixes that will only add to the problems down the road. Take a detour, don’t dig another tunnel in your pit. Junk food is a huge pitfall. An occasional dessert is not going to sabotage you. Moderation is key to manage your stress and anxiety levels.
Get your Z’s. Adequate sleep is essential to the body. Sleeping is the only state in which your body is free from anxiety and stress. Don’t deprive your body from this luxury.
How to cope with stress and anxiety with the mind:
Meditate. Meditation can vary in the length of time you spend doing it. Between ten and thirty minutes would be enough to relax your mind.
Be grateful. Showing and expressing gratitude eases the mind of what is to come. Being thankful for what you have helps the mind to reflect and relax. No matter what your situation is, there is always something to be grateful for.
Think of others. Focusing on someone else helps to take the focus away from your personal issues. The feeling you receive from kindly serving others eases the stress from your mind.
Anxiety can be described as fearing the unknown or worrying about what will happen in the future. Stress is a normal part of life and can be helpful in certain situations. But, living in a pit full of apprehension and stress can cause other problems to arise. Balancing your life can be the ladder you need to climb out of the pit and feel free.
