Setting goals for yourself is, obviously, an important part of setting up the system that works best for you. But how do you deal with that lack of energy that seems to be holding you back? The truth is, no matter how strong your will power, if you have no destination in mind you may just have to keep running until you can think of one.
Doing something you love is not just a dream, it’s a necessity in your journey through life. This does not mean doing your dream job, it means taking pride in what you do and doing it to the best of your ability, no matter what life throws at you. Part of this process is focusing your time and your attention on goals that are aligned with your core beliefs and values.
By consistently focusing on something that contributes to the big picture and makes a significant contribution to the evolution you would like to see in the world, every task you finish will leave you with a sense of progression that you cannot achieve otherwise.
To achieve this you must know what your values are and what you truly believe to be ethically correct. It is useful to take the time to sit down and write a list of your personal guidelines for your life and business choices. Keep it close at hand so that you can look it over whenever you feel the need, or whenever you need a reminder. And every evening, when you write out your to-do list for the following day, make sure that the actions on that list comply with your guidelines.
The next step is plotting your course. The best way to achieve this is to sit down and think about where you would like to be 5 years from now. Where would you like to live? How much would you like to earn? Write all that down and then think about the steps you need to take to move in that direction. Break it down into smaller actions, and decide how much of that plan you would like to implement in the coming year. Now, to achieve that yearly goal, how much do you have to achieve in the next month? How about the next week? And that leaves you with a solid daily to-do list.
Once you have this kind of system in place, you will finally draw from a much deeper well of energy. You will wake up in he morning with a feeling of purpose, and go to bed at night with a feeling of accomplishment. And whatever the task at hand, you will know just how to deal with it quickly and efficiently.
That is when time management will start to come naturally instead of tiring you out more.
