Are there things that you want to change? We all say things like “I want to feel better, I want to look better, I want to have less stress in my life, I want this or that.” Yet when it comes to making actual changes, boy do we dig in our heels! As a business coach I help my clients build healthy businesses — and in order for that to happen, they have to make changes. I can’t tell you how often a client will say “I want to make more money” yet will not take the steps they know they need to and will work for them. This is the same for weight loss and stress reduction. People say they want to feel better but why then do they balk at taking action to make the changes they say they want?
It’s downright baffling, right? I’m sure you have experienced it many times. I once had a friend say to me “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.” And I believed that too …until I realized that no, that was not true at all. In fact, it is utterly debilitating. By subscribing to that philosophy, in essence you basically stop living your life your way and begin to live it someone else’s way.
If there is something in your life that you want to be different, by all means, make it different! Too often people live their lives unfulfilled or with the status of “It’s okay, I don’t mind.” But deep down they are unhappy, unfulfilled and unsatisfied. Is that any way to live? Change is good, no matter if you choose it or someone else does. It allows you to grow, to experience and to have opportunities. Change is not bad; fear is bad. Get over the fear and make the changes that you want. Look, we only have ONE shot at this life – don’t look back and say “Oh why didn’t I do…” You will only regret what you didn’t do but wanted to.
Look at where you are today. What is one thing you have always wanted to do yet were afraid or felt that someone would think it was dumb? Make plans to do it — no excuses, no fear. So here is the secret to doing it, it’s quite easy actually — pull the Nike card and JUST DO IT. I believe in life there are no mistakes, only opportunities to learn, to grow, to experience. Life is for living, to have fun. If you really want to clear your stress, get out there and make the changes that will have you living your life your way!
