“If you ever hear yourself or anyone you care about starting to express the belief that a problem is permanent, it’s time to immediately shake that person loose. No matter what happens in your life, you’ve got to be able to believe, ‘This, too, shall pass,’ and that if you keep persisting, you’ll find a way.” — Tony Robbins in Awaken the Giant Within
“This Too Shall Pass” is something that I’ve used for years to get me through the tough times. During some of those times it was a daily reminder to myself that the situation was only temporary. Everything is always changing in life, everything is always going to be temporary and change is inevitable.
We may not be able to change the present moment and we may not always be able to shift our perception of loving the present moment, but we can always change our perception of feeling stuck. If you’re feeling stuck in the mud in your current situation start reminding yourself on a daily basis that this too, is only temporary.
When I’m able to acknowledge this too shall pass it changes my whole perception on the situation. It reminds me my current situation isn’t forever and I’ll get through it just as I’ve done with tough situations in the past.
Earlier in the year I was going through some really TOUGH stuff… probably was one of the most difficult periods of my life. I had a coach helping me through this time. My coach consistently brought me back to the idea that all situations are temporary. This was really important because at the present moment I absolutely had NO CHOICE to experience or not to experience what I was going through. I was powerless over the circumstances of the situation.
When she would ask me how my situation would be different a week, a month, a year from now… that’s when I saw hope. I’d think to myself and start listing how my life would be different a bit in the future. I listed off all the things that would change and all the things I knew would improve about the current situation. This didn’t take me out of the present moment and put me in a place of only living for the future, but it gave me hope that things won’t be bad forever and this too shall pass.
What situations are you currently powerless over? How would acknowledging your current situation is only temporary change your perception? Share your thoughts in the comments section below…
