In addition, meditation detoxifies the mind and body from stress. When a person is stressed either mentally, physically, or emotionally, the body enters into a flight pattern, and releases powerful chemicals. The chemicals cause the person to have negative thoughts and later stress. Therefore, meditation reduces the production of this chemical; hence, reduces stress. The parasympathetic nerve system – that is responsible for cooling and calming the body – starts working immediately thus the body and the mind are relaxed. In the process, meditation detoxifies as well as heals the body and mind.
Types of meditation to reduce stress
Although there are different types of mediation, this article discusses only two of them. These are concentrative meditation and mindfulness meditation.
This meditation focuses the mind on a specific object, sound, sensation, or mantra. For instance, a person may focus the mind to inhale and exhale. At the same time, the person may also focus on a candle flame or on the sound of a mantra. Eventually, the mind become still and creates a space of clarity.
Mindfulness meditation involves observing the mental movement. This type of meditation requires passive-observance and a wide view of the mind. The patient also needs to be non-judgmental and keep a positive mind.
