Can I Really Do This?

subconscious mindCan I really do this? Have you ever asked yourself that question? I’ll go out on a limb and guess that yes you have, even though I didn’t give you a context to go with it. I’m sure that at one point in your life you asked yourself that question whether it was can you really lose weight, get married, have a baby, be a mother, land a great job, or buy a fabulous car, house, or plane. I bet you maybe even said it more than once. And if you are a business owner, I know you have!

I have questioned myself plenty of times! But why do we question ourselves? Why aren’t we confident that we can do it, whatever it is?

There are many reasons we question ourselves. Maybe we grew up in a family that didn’t think we could do anything right. Maybe we were told when we were younger that we wouldn’t amount to much. Maybe we overheard someone who cared about us worrying that we would be disappointed in not getting what we wanted because they weren’t sure that we could get it. Or maybe someone who cared about us deeply was so concerned that we would get hurt, they over-protected us.

It matters not; what does matters is that you believe that yes you really can do whatever it is you set out to do. You need to have that belief. Sure, having someone in your corner really does help, but ultimately it is up to you believe… that you can lose the weight, have a thriving money-making business, get married, or be a great mother.

It really is a ‘belief thing’. I know this because, as I said, I’ve been there. I’ve doubted, I’ve been doubted. I’ve had someone who cared for me so much that they didn’t want anything bad to happen to me — including failure. It’s not a bad thing they felt that way, it’s quite lovely actually, but that did not allow me to have the inner confidence I needed to believe in myself. I had to do a lot of work on my part to get it.

Some of my clients also have been in similar situations; while quite sadly others didn’t have anyone who loved them so much and try to protect them. Okay, I think I’ve made my point. Now what I’d like to share with you are two new thoughts to try on next time you find yourself asking “Can I really do this?”

1.There are no mistakes. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. No matter what is in front of you, it was not a mistake.       Failure is not failure; it means that you have learned something that you needed to learn in order to get to the next place you are supposed to be. It means that you had the courage to try something and see what the results were. This is a very good place to be.

2. You are greater and wiser than you think you are. We are so quick to believe what others say of us when the critique is negative, and yet we fight believing when they say something positive. This belief will help you as you learn how to truly believe that you are indeed greater and wiser, but also to live it.

Once you have the belief that you can really do this, there will be no stopping you! You will see possibilities and opportunities appear before your very eyes. You will be amazed by what the world presents to you. Because truly, there are no mistakes and you are greater and wiser than you think you are, because you are!

It is time to start being you wholeheartedly, because truly you can only be you.
