When I was younger, my mom would always remind (nag) me to be more serious, to study harder and to be the very best at whatever I do. I took her advice, excelled and made her very, very proud. Now that I am older, she then tells (orders) me to love having fun, take things slow and be younger at heart. Oh, how I love you Mom!
No matter, she has made me realize that many of us live our lives backwards, appreciating life’s beautiful intricacy only when it’s almost too late. Particularly for women the world over, life can be strewn with “downers,” such as anxiety, depression and stress. We women can get caught up easily and may forget the important things in life. These downers can set in, but they don’t have to suck the fun out of life.
Let’s live life to the fullest with these 5 exciting ways to combat downers.
Get a new hobby. Novelty breeds anticipation and fun. Do something new, and I highly suggest going hardcore for the excitement factor. Thus, recently I took up off-road driving. Nothing sexier than a girl going for this, right? For this, I had to drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and bar none, it was the most adrenaline-charged time of my life. For the best and largest dealership of off-road Jeep in the entire USA, head over to Dave Smith Motors. Click here to see their latest and top off-road Jeep models.
Keep the heart pumping. History and innumerable human studies have irrefutably accounted that regular mental and physical exercises not only keep our bodies in peak shape but also make us feel better, more alive. Moving our bodies at consistent intervals trigger our brains to release endorphins, the feel-good hormones, which considerably reduce the debilitating effects of anxiety and stress. Do a variation of these activities to keep the fun going.
Meditate every day. Initially reluctant, I finally had the hang of it after a week of regular meditating. Meditation simply calms me down, unwinds my mind and releases all that pent-up negativity. It keeps me centered. Should you become easily sidetracked during meditation, I recommend listening to soothing music.
Mingle more. Socializing is another amazing stress buster. Seeing people, both new and old, will definitely lift you up from the doldrums as you reconnect will your loved ones and build new connections with others.
Nap to recharge. Remember when we hated naps as kids? Yes, Mom and Dad weren’t lying when they said that naps are good for us. In fact, our brains take longer to refresh as we age. Ergo, power naps are incredibly beneficial because they recharge our minds, making us more ready to face the physical challenges and cutting stress down.
In a nutshell, living a stress-free life is not entirely possible, but we have all options to make it fuller and happier. Beating anxiety, depression and stress is a matter of choice after all. We don’t have to get caught up in them. Although living our lives in reverse may be a reality, it is never too late to become a better version of ourselves today and tomorrow.
