WHY We Get Stuck In Fear, Sadness And Grief? (And WHAT To Do About It!)


There are several reasons why we get stuck in fear, sadness, grief……

But here is one of the most critical reasons….. something that most people miss.

(Ironically, it’s also one of the quickest and easiest to fix…)

First, notice something about emotional states like fear, sadness, grief, procrastination, depression:

They are all states of energetic CONTRACTION (aka. withdrawal, inertia, or in Daoist terms, “yin” energy). You might say they are patterns of contracting, suppressing, and holding energy inside the body.

By contrast, emotional states like anger, pride, and courage, are more ACTIVE and expressive emotional states. These energies are more active, moving, and “yang”. Their form is directing energy outside the body. Follow me so far?

Now another critical thing to “get” is that stuck patterns are held by the physical body on a CELLULAR level, where they tend to ACCUMULATE over time. (There’s a lot of scientific evidence to support this idea, which I won’t get into here. The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton is worth reading, for example.)

Here’s another colorful metaphor 🙂

Imagine a black hole in outer space. Contracted energies like fear, sadness, and depression actually attract and snowball more negativity in on itself. How?

The more you contract and suppress, the stronger the pattern grows and builds in your subconscious. This is how patterns of energetic contraction get stuck in the body, and then continue to build and grow out of control.

So, what to do about fear, sadness, grief?

In the last few emails, we’ve talked about how to address this on the mental and emotional dimensions of your being. In my experience, addressing stuck patterns on the physical dimension is just as critical.

We’ll talk about this more in future posts, but for now, one of the most powerful methods is to get your body moving and breathing. This breaks up patterns of contracted energy held in your body, so you can more easily clear out the garbage with the mind and heart-centered techniques we’ve been discussing.
