How To Turn Your Bathroom Into A Relaxing Spa

Woman Resting in Bath1. Declutter Your Bathroom

The first step to creating a Zen spa-like bathroom is to simplify your bathroom and minimize the visibility of products. Keep your bathroom counters clear except for the most necessary items, such as hand soap and towels. Use organizers to store bathroom accessories, and put toothbrush holders, lotion dispensers, and beauty products in a wall cabinet away from view. This will help reduce the appearance of clutter and create a calm setting to relax. You can easily bring spa like elements into the bathroom by rolling towels and facecloths and storing them in a wicker basket that is easily accessible. Keep simplicity in mind when creating your Zen and spa-like bathroom.

    2. The Use of Colour

We associate colours with different moods. When choosing the colours you want to incorporate in your bathrooms consider the mood associated with each hue.

    – Off Whites and Creams are associated with peace, innocence, simplicity, and cleanliness
    – Blue is associated with decisiveness, calmness and serenity, peaceful and tranquil
    – Violet is associated with beauty, inspiration
    – Grey is associated with being clean and pure
    – Lavender is associated with calms the nerves and relaxes the mind
    – Green is associated with tranquility, health and balance
    – Natural Spa: Soft browns, greens, grays give a natural, down to earth appearance and feel
    – Calm Spa: blues and greens and beiges make us feel calm, balanced, and less emotional
    – Fresh Spa: soft pastel colours such as light purple, light blues, yellows and pinks

    3. Bring Nature Indoors

Add plants to your bathroom to create a relaxing atmosphere. It’s no secret that nature often helps bring us to a meditative and reflective place of peace. If you want to restore your sense of serenity, incorporating plants and elements of nature are an easy and effective way in doing so. Indoor plants contribute to making a bathroom space healthier allowing you to breathe better and appreciate simplicity and beauty.

Some Plants That Work Well in Bathrooms Include:
    – Chinese Evergreen
    – Bamboo Varieties
    – Spider Plants
    – African Violets
    – Snake Plants
    – Aloe Vera Plants

If you don’t want to take on the responsibility of caring for real plants, imitation plants are a simple alternative that can still provide a calming atmosphere.

    4. Purchase Some Spa Products
Purchase some spa products to have on hand when you really want to pamper yourself. Treat yourself to foot scrubs, bath salts, face masks, bath oils, scented lotions and a manicure/pedicure set are ideal to have on hand when you feel the need to indulge.

    5. Incorporate Other Relaxing Elements

    Using Candles
Candles are an easy way to create a relaxing spa setting and inexpensive to purchase. If you are concerned that candles could potentially become a fire hazard you can purchase battery powered candles that look just like the real thing.

    Dim Lighting
Softening up your lighting can be as easy as changing your light bulbs. Halogen bulbs produce a wide colour spectrum and allow the true colours of natural materials to glow in a bathroom. If you would like to go to the extra mile in changing up your bathroom lighting, you could install a dimmer. This will allow you to adjust the lighting in your bathroom depending on your mood.

    Relaxing Scents
Add a calming or invigorating scent to the mix, in your efforts to achieve a spa-like bathroom. For calming effects: vanilla, lavender, cinnamon, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, gardenia, aromatherapy are great scents you can add to your bathroom. For invigorating effects: amber, peppermint, basil, citronella, sweet grass, eucalyptus, geranium. These scents are available in many candles, reed diffusers and scented oils. You may also be able to find body washes and/or lotions that incorporate these scents.

    Incorporate Music
Since we have sight, touch and smell covered you can choose whether or not you want to include sound to your bathroom spa experience. You can incorporate sound in your spa by keeping a CD player hidden in your bathroom, hooking up your IPod to a speaker system and playing music that helps you relax.
