    Stress-Reducing Tips and Guidelines

imgIn today’s world we face many reasons to stress out, from work-related stress to family-related stress and the things that keep us awake at night, such as financial issues, health issues and even worse things out there. The main thing is to remember to take your time to relax, being aware that you really deserve some time for yourself. You don’t necessarily need special conditions for that, such as a weekend retreat or a spa, but if you feel you need them then go ahead and make use of them.

The following tips however cover a simpler and less expensive set of solutions you can work with:

    • Meditation

A few minutes a day can greatly help decrease your stress and anxiety levels. Daily meditation can have a positive effect by altering the neural pathways of the brain, giving you increased levels of stress resistance. It can be done fairly easily, just sit on the floor, close your eyes and try to focus your attention on a positive mantra or image of something that brings you peace and calm and simply take deep breaths and relax. If passive meditation is not to your liking or you think you can fall asleep, then maybe a more active state could be what you’re looking for.

    • Deep breaths

You should take at last five minutes of your day to work on slow, steady and focused breathing. Just sit upright and close your eyes, inhale through your nose and feel the breath pass through you, then exhale and focus on that as well. Empty your mind and focus on the act of breathing and you will slowly feel your worries scatter. Deep breaths slow heart rate and lower blood pressure, which greatly helps relieve stress at any given moment.

    • Be aware

You should learn how to pay attention to your surroundings at all times. There is a great calming power in feeling the air on your face, becoming aware of the subtle things around you at all times and observing them. Enjoying your food one bite at a time, instead of wolfing it down, focusing on the moment and your senses. All of these can help greatly reduce your stress levels and make your life much more focused and calm.

    • Socializing

Your social connections will play a great role in minimizing your overall stress. Simply talk to your friends, either online or on the phone, share your troubles and get a better perspective and vent when you feel frustrated. You don’t have to carry your burdens alone.

    • Body awareness

You should scan your body mentally each day, becoming aware of anything you feel with it. The good pain of an effective workout can become a good distraction from times when you feel the world is rallied against you. The same goes for any other physical activity, so make sure you don’t just glide through life without noticing anything.
