Stress Management Tips That Will Always Work

How friends make the best medicineIt may seem that there’s nothing that you can do about stress. The bills won’t stop coming, there’ll never be more hours in the day, and your career and family responsibilities will be demanding. But you have more control than you may think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of your life may be the foundation of stress management. Managing stress is all about taking charge: of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, and exactly how you deal with problems.

There is certainly an abundance of stress relievers and in addition towards the above, various progressive muscular relaxation exercises, autogenic training, deep breathing, massage therapies, visual imagery and self-hypnosis practices are popular.

Take a break from the stressor

It might appear difficult to get away from a big work project, a crying baby or a growing credit card bill. But when you give yourself permission to step from it, you let yourself have time to change your behavior, which can help you have a new perspective or practice techniques to feel less overwhelmed. It’s important not to avoid your stress (those bills need to be paid sometime), but even just 20-minutes to consider care of yourself is helpful.

    Leave time for relaxing

Don’t overbook yourself. Be selective concerning the activities you choose for yourself and your family members. Kids need time to wind down, just like adults. Stressed parents can create stressed children. Enjoy relaxing with your kids. Have some fun playing board games, going for walks, or watching movies together. And remember taking time to relax by yourself or with friends.

    Smile and laugh

Our brains are interconnected with this: emotions and facial expressions. When people are stressed, they often hold a lot of the stress within their face. So laughs or smiles might help relieve some of that tension and improve the problem.

    Develop a support network

Support networks can include family, friends, or workmates. If you’re a stay-at-home parent, it’s especially important to reach out to others for support. Get to know the other parents at your child’s school. For those who have a very young child, try to find a play group or mom’s group to go to. Volunteer at your child’s school.

    Exercise

The study keeps growing – exercise benefits your mind just as well as your body. We keep listening to the long-term benefits of a regular exercise routine. But even a 20-minute walk, run, swim or dance session in the middle of a stressful time can give an immediate effect that may last for several hours.

    Get social support

Call a friend, send an email. When you share your concerns or feelings with another person, it will help relieve stress. But it’s important that the person that you talk to is someone whom you trust and whom you feel can understand and validate you. If your family is a stressor, for instance, it may not alleviate your stress if you share your woes with them.

    Meditate

Meditation and mindful prayer help the mind and body to relax and focus. Mindfulness might help people see new perspectives, develop self-compassion and forgiveness. When practicing a type of mindfulness, people can release emotions that could have been causing the body physical stress. Much like exercise, research has shown that even meditating briefly can reap immediate benefits.
