How Spas Can Reduce Stress (and May Even Prevent a Heart Attack!)

It is helpful to know how spas can reduce stressWork, kids, family, home and everyday life can all cause extreme stress. When we begin to feel stress, our bodies release cortisol and adrenaline, which is also known as our fight or flight response. This causes our blood pressure to spike until after the threat has passed. When needing to escape a dangerous situation is vital to our safety, this reaction is incredibly important. Unfortunately, our bodies cannot tell the difference between stresses from a life-threatening event and stresses from normal life.

However, we all know that it is important to keep stress and blood pressure levels under control. Long periods of high stress and high blood pressure can lead to damage to your heart and arteries. Since heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women in the United States, it is very important to focus on ways to lower stress and blood pressure, and decrease the risk of a heart attack.

How Does Water Make You Healthier?

For years, people have known that hot water can relax muscles and reduce tension. Natural hot springs all over the world have attracted people to their shores with the promise of allowing them to leave refreshed and relaxed. However, you do not have to travel around the world to experience the health benefits from a hot spring. You can get the same relaxation by owning an indoor or outdoor spa in your own home.

Pulsating jets of warm water can relax and soothe tight muscles, relieving stress and anxiety. Warm water also causes blood vessels to open up, which reduces blood pressure. Also, unlike the water in a bathtub, which can start to cool down as soon as the faucet is off, the heat in a spa is kept at a consistent level for maximum effect.

Sometimes, stress can cause insomnia, and keep you awake at all hours of the night. In turn, this can cause even more stress as you struggle with your daily tasks while lacking the sleep you need to function properly. Hot water therapy has been shown to cause the body’s natural sleep mechanisms to occur, all without the harmful side effects of chemical sleep aids. Soaking in warm water a few hours before you are ready to go to bed causes your internal temperature to lower, which allows you to fall asleep easier. Personally, this is the best insomnia cure that I know of! It’s hard to stay awake in a hot tub for a long period of time, and this definitely has its advantages.

    Types of Home Spas

There are many different types of home spas to fit your personal needs. The most well-known type is the traditional hot tub. Unlike your typical bathtub, a hot tub can comfortably fit more than one person, and is usually located outdoors. Hot tubs offer the traditional jets of water that can target different muscles for a relaxing massage.

If outdoor space is an issue, another type of spa available is the walk-in tub. The walk-in tub fits into the same spot as a traditional bathtub. However, unlike the difficulties faced by trying to climb in and out of a tub low to the ground, a walk-in tub has a small step and a leak-proof door. The tall walls allow you to soak up to your neck in warm water, and you still get the same benefits from the pulsating jets of water.

The health benefits from lowering stress and high blood pressure cannot be ignored, and it’s important to understand the positive benefits a person can gain from regular soaks in hot water. Invest in a home spa or walk-in tub today and watch as you feel the effects of living a healthier life.
