Do you have anything that you want to be or do, you know it would be good, but you’re just not doing it—at least not yet?
It could be cultivating your health and a peaceful mind, losing weight through diet and exercise, or more fully living your purpose by creating your art, being of service, or growing your business.
What is that for you?
If you’re like many folks, it’s not that you don’t know what you want or what would be good to do. It’s not that you’re lacking the desire. There is just something else that keeps blocking your success.
The roadblock could be lack of time and energy, lack of confidence, lack of knowledge of exactly about how to go about that thing you truly desire—or some more mysterious inner block that you can’t seem to put your finger on.
As a teacher, trainer, mentor and coach for the past 35 years, it’s been my pleasure to help clients get a handle on those mysterious inner blocks and move through them to take action. This kind of support is the missing key that virtually every top performer knows and uses to reach for their bigger goals and dreams.
Over the years, I’ve learned that there are at least four ways that having a personal coach and mentor can be invaluable to help you get unstuck and move forward.
A coach or mentor doesn’t do the work for you, but they are there with you to make sure that you do. Just having an appointment with a coach is an incentive to do what you know you need to do to get to where you want to be. Having someone ask you how things are going, what went well, and what got in your way, may be just what you need to take action.
When you have somewhere you want to go, it’s really helpful to have someone guide you who has been there and done that. Having a coach who has accomplished what you wish to accomplish, who has faced the challenges themselves, and learned to overcome them, gives you a clear path to follow. A coach is ready with tried and true tips and tools that give you that expert edge.
The hardest thing for you to see is your own habitual patterns—especially the self-defeating ones. You are so used to thinking, feeling, and acting the way that you do, that you just take for granted that that is the way things are. Having a pair of outside eyes and ears observing what you are doing and reflecting it back to you gives you essential insight into what is keeping you stuck and how you can move forward.
4. Emotional Support
No matter what you want to experience, achieve, or create in your life, there are going to be challenges. There are going to be days when the best laid plans don’t work out and all your efforts don’t pay off the way they were supposed to.
Having a coach in your corner, with a warm smile, ears to listen, and encouraging words, can turn those days of frustration and disappointment into days of feeling deeply cared for.
You have someone by your side who can see beyond the negative feelings of the moment, show you how far you’ve come already, and bring you back to believing that, “Yes, you can do this.”
I wish you all the peace, love, joy, and success your soul desires!
