    7 Simple Strategies To Living A Happy, Fulfilled Life

    There are many ways of overcoming fear -surely a few that will work for youHave you been wishing you could get more out of life?

    It´s never too late, you know.

    Life is all about choices and every day is a new chance to make better ones. Choices that can help redefine and direct the course your life is taking.

    Making the choice to live consciously is the first step to living a more fulfilled and happy life. It helps you stay connected to both your actions and your feelings.

    Let me give you an example: Maybe, like me, you´ve decided to give up chocolate for Lent. You swear to yourself you are going to watch what you eat and only allow healthy food to pass your lips.

    Then a few hours later, the chocolate bars you have stashed away for the kids begin calling your name… you try to resist but that little voice inside your head keeps nagging about how one little candy bar won´t hurt.

    Now let´s look at it from a different angle: The situation is the same. Only this time you are better prepared because you´ve spent some time thinking about how you will react when that craving monster rears its ugly head.

    Perhaps you´ve cleared the house of all junk food. You make a point of preparing a delicious dinner heaped with tasty vegetables and your favorite lemon chicken. You take time to enjoy it. You focus your thoughts on eating healthily and have some fruit and veggie sticks already in the fridge for snacking on later.

    In the second example, you know what you want and have your end goal in mind. You commit to making choices that keep you in touch with your feelings, shape your actions and move you toward the goal you´ve set.

    There are a lot of strategies you can use to live more consciously. Strategies that help ensure you´re not living your life like a leaf in the wind, being pushed and blown about without direction or design.

    Here are a few of my favorites – I hope they help and inspire you on your journey to the happier, more fulfilled life you seek:

    1) Little Steps Equal BIG Results

    Sometimes, when we´re wanting to make a change, we jump into things without thinking… then wind up feeling overwhelmed and out of sorts.

    That´s why it´s important to take things one step at a time.

    Real change doesn´t happen overnight, after all. It really is worth your time to think about what you want to change in your life then plot out some deliberate steps to get you there.

    2) Balance Is Essential

    Sometimes we get so excited about a path we´ve chosen to follow we run around like a horse with blinders on. We forget about everything and everyone else around us. That´s when we need to take a step back and find balance in our lives.

    Becoming a diet demon or a workaholic can lead to burnout far before you ever get a chance to enjoy any positive results. Go ahead and set your goals but slow down enough to enjoy the people and the world around you as you move toward them.

    3) Live In The “Now”

    So many of us have our heads either in the past or straining towards the future… if that sounds like you, then you´re not alone. This is something I´ve struggled with for years.

    And yet, the older I become, the more I realize that the only time we really have within our control is the here and now.

    Living in the now can be difficult to do. In fact, I know first-hand it takes quite a bit of practice!

    Still, make a point of focusing on each task as you do it. Avoid trying to do a zillion things at once. Stop letting your mind wander to what you need to do tomorrow or the mean thing your co-worker said about you yesterday. Stop trying to listen to your kids or your husband while making your shopping list on the side.

    When you´re with them, force yourself to stay in the present moment and focus on them.

    4) Develop Deeper Self-awareness

    Being more self-aware is key to living a happy, fulfilled life.

    Learning what makes you tick. Understanding what drives you, what inspires you, what´s important to you. All of these things are crucial to helping you create opportunities to move you toward your goals, dreams and desires.

    5) Stand Up For What You Believe

    When we were young, many of us dreaded standing out. We sought comfort in groups – even if we didn´t have that much in common with them.

    As we get older, though, we begin to realize it´s okay to be different and speak our minds. After all, that´s a big part of what makes us who we are. Being an adult means standing up for what you believe. And being true to your beliefs makes it easier to find and follow the path you were meant to be on.

    6) Let Go Of Negativity

    There are things in life you can control – and many things you can´t. Learning to recognize the difference is essential if you ever hope to live the life of your dreams.

    Save your emotional energy for those things you really do have the power to change. Let go of negativity as well as situations outside of your control. Focus on making choices that serve you and your life well.

    7) Thinking Is Great ~ Doing Is Better!

    Now that we´ve talked our way through all of these strategies, it´s time to get down to the nitty-gritty with number 7.

    If you truly want to see a change in the life you live; if you really want to be happy, healthy and successful, then it´s time to take action!

    I won´t kid you. Changing your life will open you up to all kinds of challenges. If putting all the above strategies to work seems a bit overwhelming, choose ONE. Then follow through and actually DO it. Make it an active part of your day-to-day lifestyle.
