    Set Aside Ample Time to Say Goodbye to the Place You’re Moving From

    Bidding farewell to a place you’ve spent time in is often even harder than saying goodbye to specific people, although that is also part of the process. No matter how long you’ve lived somewhere, chances are that places like restaurants, neighbourhoods, cultural events and parks have all helped form the memories you’ll now cherish forever.

    In order to make a transition that’s as smooth as possible, spend time participating in all the things you’ve learned to love before you move. That might mean getting a beloved specialty drink at a local coffee shop, strolling along a nature trail, or catching one last flick at a historic art house cinema. Don’t forget to take plenty of pictures of those highlights, preferably while accompanied by loved ones. Those photographs could work well for staving off homesickness.

    Make a Move-Out Schedule

    Packing up to prepare for a move can be especially tough because it’s a task that requires physical, mental and emotional strength. Strength will come in handy if you’re lifting heavy boxes or furniture, and mental sharpness will help you stay organized. Although it may be tempting to stay shut up at home rather than discovering the town, gently force yourself to see what’s nearby, even if that just means you venture out to buy groceries. These kinds of small trips should boost your confidence so you’ll soon feel like a local.
